Open Ended Loose Parts! Under The Sea I don't know about you, but I love pretty much everything to do with water. So naturally this is a theme that I get really into and enjoy as much as the kids do. I have had a lot of fun with this theme over the years. there are a lot of movement opportunities as well as hands on experiences with this one. I have listed some of my favorite activities below. 1) Hand Print Fish (string on line with stick) 2)Fish sponges in Shaving Cream Sensory 3) Move Like A (Crab, Whale, Fish) Questions For Further Learning and Engaging: What Kinds of animals live in the ocean? are animals the only living things in the ocean? what are the biggest and smallest things that live in the ocean? You can create a lot of fun Dramatic Play situations. You can defiantly do a lot of science and sensory. I love to put sand out and give the kids water, and all sorts of tools. The creative ideas the kids come up with are endless...

Scrap Art..... Fun For All Ages!

Image
Welcome Back!  I have something for you that I think your really going to enjoy! I know I am very excited to use it in class with my friends!  I call it "Scrap Art". As you see it IS exactly what it sounds like! What I love about this is that the possibilities are ENDLESS. you can create anything with it that your mind can think up. The best thing is, it can be stretched or simplified for ANY age! you can make larger more abstract objects with older children using smaller objects. for younger children (as we did above) you can provide pre cut "Parts" to the art and allow then to decorate with the provided art supplies. I love to use confetti, Tissue Paper, Dry Pasta, Straws. I could go on and on! In this version, we allowed the older children to create whatever they wanted. We provided them with contact paper, Wiggle Eyes and Recycled Art Work. Then the children cut them into whatever shapes they wanted. This is a fantastic art activity that works on all s...

Multi Step Fish Art!

Image
Hello Everyone! I hope you are as excited for summer as I am! a few weeks ago I started a Multi Step art Project with my friends. I wanted to share with you the details about the pictures that I have been posting on FB as well! I first gave the children a Blank Piece of Large Paper and encouraged them the paint it all blue. Then we tried to add "Sand" you can use actual sand or Yellow Salt but ask you see here, the Salt Didn't Stick Well. Then I encouraged the Children to tear tissue paper and create Seaweed.                                   Finally, For our last step I had my friends use their hand prints to create fish and finish their project! They had as much fun with this as I did watching them. You can make this as details or Simple as you or your friends wish.  I hope you enjoy!!

Sand, Sun, Shells, Fish and Art OH MY!

Image
Hello Everyone!! I haven't written in a while, I just came back from a wonderful Mini Vacation to the Lake. Much Needed and now I'm ready to share with you all. Today I have something fun for you! we started a Multi Step Art Project! This is step one. Next week we are going to add step two. My friends enjoyed this so much they started using their hands, which was a lot of fun. Check Back next week to see step two and see if you can figure out what were going to end up with after Week 4. We also made something that was a lot of fun. We started with a half of a paper plate and added streamers of tissue paper to the bottom. Then we turned it over and painted it. These Tissue paper Jelly Fish were a lot of fun. We also had Sand, Shells, Stones and Sponge Fish in your Sand Table. I hope you have as much fun with these ideas as we did! Leave Us a Comment On FB and let us know what you think .

Happy Valentines Week!

Image
Hello Friends, I hope you had a fun Valentines Day! I wanted to share two things with you today. The first thing is a technique that I used this past week. We made scented paint! this was both a science experiment AND an art project that not only turned out amazingly, but the children all had fun doing as well. I took Tempra Paint and I added half a package of cool aid to the matching color. you have to stir it really well to make sure the powder all gets dissolved ( I didn't stir well enough and it turned into play dough at the bottom). The Science part is... that as you dissolve the powder into the paint, it starts to bubble and foam (looks really cool). The children in my class were all amazed!  THEN the fun art part started! I gave the children heart cookie cutters, and I had them dip into the paint mix, and stamp on paper! WOW were the results pretty! check this out.                I love how the Ko...

Things Under The Sea

Image
This week I wanted to write and tell you about a fun topic. Things Under The Sea most children love this theme, both boy and girl. This theme can be used in so many fun ways. You can make hand shaped fish like we did this week With this activity we drew fish in crayon and used water color paint over the crayon. (I actually did this activity for someone in their class so this one I didn't create myself). The children had a lot of fun with it and it is appropriate for all ages. you can stretch it as detailed or as simple as you might want.   Another fun idea to use with the Under The Sea theme, is fish in water. You can do this with fish shaped sponges or you can use Toys like we did this week. I would suggest using just a small amount of water. They children had just as much fun as they would have with a whole bucket. This way just kept them a lot dryer. You can even bring a kiddy pool out and fill it with water toys including fish and let the chil...
