Gardens Week! (Tip)

Good Morning Everyone! Today I want to share with you a TIP for getting started with exploring Gardens. If you have read my blog for a while you know I have posted many activities on Gardens, and I have a whole theme on the topic that is available. (See thecreativecampusonline.com "click on Invitations To Play"). You can explore Gardens in so many ways. you can learn about Plants and Trees. Where do they come from?  What do they need to grow?  What can they be used for?  Tip of the day: Start with hearty plants or seeds that don't require a lot of care. these will produce the best results and get kids the most excited, because they wont have to wait long for results. (Cucumbers, Peppers, Radishes, Beans). You can also learn about food gardens. This is a great long term project that gets kids engaged in building responsibility. kids will enjoy planting and caring for a plant as it grows from seed to plant to product. This is a great way to explore how things grow w...

Open Ended Play with "Loose Parts" Bugs and Gardens

Gardens is a theme that you can use several times.  you can use it to talk about food or you can use it to talk about flowers and plants. To be honest, I'm not sure which is more fun. I like to offer dirt in the sensory area, I leave out material flowers, gloves and garden tools (kids size). I let the kids decide what kind of garden they are gonna create and what they want to put in it. I also like to use this theme as a science experience. I let the kids plant real plants and then over time I encourage them to take care of them as they grow. when they are ready the get planted in the ground. you can further the activity by cooking with their produce.  These are just a Few of my favorite ways to work with this theme. Bugs and plants as a theme is one of the few that i get a little carried away with. You can use it for so many things in so many ways. the fun is endless from scavenger hunts to Gross motor and everything in between. Some of my favorite ways to use this theme...

Let the children feel the item without looking and guess what is inside. this is a great activity for Thinking skills and Sensory experiences 1) Animal Voices : Provide pictures of animals and play recordings on the noises they make. ask the children guess them correctly have them choose the correct animal from the pile till all are chosen. 2) Animal Match : Find Pictures of animals and their babies. display the pictures and allow children to take turns matching adults with their babies. 3) Life Size A...

Play With Your Food ( Playdough, Noodles, Rice and Jello)

Image
Hello Again Friends! Yes I am that teacher (Huge Smile). I encourage my students to play with their food! we paint with it, we run cars through it. We even squish it! This is not only a great way to encourage your children to TRY new things! but it makes the process of experiencing something new FUN! I do however actually use food to teach as well. I like to slice apples of different kinds in the fall and talk about how they all taste different even though the look the same on the inside. ( we also discuss how they Look Different as well). I like to use food for sensory play as well. This is where the PLAYING comes in! I like to make Jello and put things in it (dino bones is always fun). Then I encourage the children to dig and squish to see what they can find. Jello is also great for playing "I Spy" sensory game. Beans and flour are also great things to use for sensory play and add things to them to change their texture. 'I hope you enjoyed these activities, a...
