Week 5 2017 Make Believe Play

Image
Hello Friends, Have you ever felt like you don't have the resources, Like you are not creative enough to eliminate the struggles you and your child are experiencing as you try to learn and build new skills as you play and explore together? I want to show you that it's just not so! I want to share with you a way that you can Play, Learn and Grow with your child IN SPITE of these feelings of Limitations or Struggles . I believe that when you engage with your child in activities that are centered around them, they naturally are engaged and develop an interest in the activity and learning what lessons the activity provides. Building New Skills and Engagement doesn't have to be work! it can be fun for both you and your child. When I work with clients I help them create "Invitations to Play, Learn and Grow". I describe an invitation as any activity that is set out for a child to explore and engage in at their own pace. These activities are always open ...

Kids Will Never Learn Sitting Still! (Simon Says Construction)

Image
Every activity children engage in should be chosen by them. It Should be connected to their skills, Interests, or Needs . when children engage in these kinds of activities, they naturally grow and learn as they are exposed to new things. When they are interested in engaging with or learning more about a topic then they will naturally engage. One of my new favorites that I will use over and over again, is "Simon Says" Construction. This is a game that we played today with my " Play and Learn Group". I have created programs for learning and building news skills using play at home! These are yours to keep as your learn and grow using play! If you have enjoyed my "Simon Say Construction". Then you will enjoy the programs I have to share!  Come Join The Creative Campus: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Thecreativecampus/ where you will find more details about THIS and other fun activities! "Open Ended Play" with Loose Parts and Construction

Image
I don't know about you! but I love using the Construction theme! I love to work with the kids to build stuff... and then of course to DESTROY Muahhahah!  Construction can be used in so many fun ways. you can build a cave for pretend play. You can Build Towers in the sand table (hence the DESTROY). They can even build their own house or other building, which is great small motor, eye hand coordination and Art All wrapped into one! If you are looking for more of a full body approach, you can use large blocks and mats, even folding tents to Construct obstacle courses, Make believe play structures. Construction (Loose parts) I love this theme because it gets kids moving and communicating. You can turn any learning area into a construction zone (i know that sounds scary, but it doesn't have to be). You can use blocks and encourage children to build life size buildings. You can use art as construction. Sensory experiences can be construction zones as well. Is there somethin...

Play is a Childs Work

Image
Play is how children develop their Skills, Creativity, Relationships and sense of self. Some people believe that  play is unproductive (especially as children get older). I however believe that play is really a child's work. By this I mean, that children grow and learn as they play. Children are not meant to learn through sitting still and listening, watching things be demonstrated or reading from a book alone! Children learn when they experience. Some children are interested in some forms of play and learning over others. This is what makes them individual. I believe that that most productive learning environments provide all forms of play and learning work in a way that allows every child to choose what interests them the most. These forms of play/ work should include but don't have to be limited to  : Small Motor :Digging, Stringing, Cutting, Coloring, Painting, Mixing , Large Motor: Running, Climbing, Spinning, Kicking, Math: Counting, Meas...

Aliens and Robots Oh My!!

Hello Everyone!    Valentines Day is right around the corner. I hope your having a lot of fun getting ready for the special day. I wanted to share with you a fun theme I have been working on with my little friends!  I recently held a class on the theme of Aliens and Robots.   This is a fun activity for both boys and girls. All children can use their creativity and create their own creatures. I love these themes because you can incorporate Colors, Shapes and Number learning into the activities. These themes are also great for practicing Eye/ Hand Coordination and Small Motor Skills.   You can also create aliens using the same materials. you can introduce Paint, Glitter, Different Stickers you can make it as simple or detailed as your friends are interested in. If you are interested in learning more about the activities that I have used for this theme I would love for you to join me at my up coming event : https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-a_cb6...

Sandy Science!

Image
Hello Everyone! Our summer is winding down, hard to believe. I wanted to share a really fun activity with you that can be done outside in the summer and brought indoors through the rest of the year. SAND! We did a unit on construction recently and used sand as a part of it. We started out with dry sand which my friends tried to scoop and pile up. They quickly realized that it didn't work very well. Then I asked them what they thought we could do about making it pile up easier? as im sure you guessed, they all shouted ADD WATER!!! and so we did. this is what they did with the wet sand.  Sand Castles Of Course! this is a great activity for children of all ages because the younger ones will enjoy the scooping and the pouring, while older ones will get more creative and stack and build with the sand adding more or less water to get the texture they want. To finish off our messy fun day, my friends wanted to construct some creations of their own. So we got out the art supplies...
