Open Ended "Loose Parts" Play With Pumpkins

Image
Who Doesn't love pumpkins. I like to do a lot of fun activities with this topic. pumpkin seed math is a lot of fun. you can color the seeds different colors and let everyone take turns taking a scoop from the big pot. then they have to count and sort the seeds by color. once everyone has taken scoops and the seeds are gone. count each color and see who has the most of each. If you are looking for a fun art activity. make a pumpkin patch. stuff brown bags full of news paper till fat. then paint them orange with a green stem. add a face to make them a jack O lantern. ( you can use the pumpkins as a gross motor game as well. Before painting the faces on, display the colored pumpkins in a *field* and let ever person walk about and Pick One.  then they can add their own face to the one they choose.  Makes for a fun group project . Welcome Back Friends! September is here again! I love this time of the year! not to hot, not to cold, the weather is Just Right! There are so many fun experiences we can have and create this time of year, and I cant wait to share my take on them with all of you. I would Love for you to leave me comments and share your ideas on the things that I post as well. I recently did a fun activity with my friends and I think you and your friends will enjoy this as well. we made Weather Change Mobiles. We Made a Cloud which you can add rain drops to if you want to show rain clouds and white clouds as different ones. and we chose to make a sun as well. For older friends I would suggest creating snowflakes as well, however my friends wanted to move on to something different and we forgot about the snow. I love to create activities like this because it usually leads to science exploration and extension of play and learning.  Another Activity we did this month is a really fun Tree Ac...

Weather Weather Everywhere!!

Welcome Back Everyone! I hope you are having lots of fun and learning new things every day! I get the most enjoyment out of starting an activity with my little friends and watching them turn it into an activity of their very own. That is exactly what happened today. I started out with pre drawn art starters for my friends (cloud shapes) and my friends where very excited to see the Paint, Tissue Paper, Glue and other supplies I had out for them.   I was amazed to watch some of them choose the blank paper and start to make their own cloud art.   Some left their art as a abstract piece of paper and others asked me to cut the edges into a cloud shape After their art was done! This is what some of them ended up looking like, I hope you love it as much as I did and make some of your very own! This activity was a great example of how to take one idea and stretch it across all Ages, Skill Levels and Creative Expressions. I love doing this kind of activity and watching the chi...

Happy Valentines Week!

Image
Hello Friends, I hope you had a fun Valentines Day! I wanted to share two things with you today. The first thing is a technique that I used this past week. We made scented paint! this was both a science experiment AND an art project that not only turned out amazingly, but the children all had fun doing as well. I took Tempra Paint and I added half a package of cool aid to the matching color. you have to stir it really well to make sure the powder all gets dissolved ( I didn't stir well enough and it turned into play dough at the bottom). The Science part is... that as you dissolve the powder into the paint, it starts to bubble and foam (looks really cool). The children in my class were all amazed!  THEN the fun art part started! I gave the children heart cookie cutters, and I had them dip into the paint mix, and stamp on paper! WOW were the results pretty! check this out.                I love how the Ko...

Shape Robots!

Hi Everyone! We are suffering from yet another snow storm! I will be so happy when spring finally gets here. I love the snow don't get me wrong, its a wonderful opportunity to play for our little friends.  That being said, today I want to share with you  Robots. This is a fun topic for both boys and girls. This can also be shared with a wide range of ages, because you can break it down for your youngest friends and you can make it more detailed and difficult for your older ones. Sponges, boxes, Paper, Glue, Pipe Cleaners! Paint OH MY! put the supplies out and let your children/ students get creative. I would love to see what creations you and your children come up with! This activity will engage your child's creativity, Small Motor Skills as they paint or glue pieces to their creation. Recognition of their colors and shapes will also be exercised as they choose the materials and pieces that they want . Instead of posting my own pictures of the activity like usually do, ...

Clean Painting.

Its not very often that I plan an art project, that either goes wrong or I realize I don't have the supplies in the classroom for. Unfortunately that happened today. I wanted to do a keep sake project and realized I didn't have enough jars. Long story short, I got the idea to paint with shaving cream. I gave each child a pile of shaving cream and allowed them to pick two colors they wanted to mix into the shaving cream. I'm not sure which part they enjoyed more! the mixing of the paint or the drawing on the table after it turned colors. I encourage you all to try this in your classes if you haven't already! even I had fun with this one :) Have A Great Day!    Y our Creativity Producer and Professional Mess Maker, Theresa @ The Creative Campus
