Open Ended "Loose Parts" Transportation

Image
Welcome Back Friends! Transportation is a theme that has something for everyone!  Planes, Trains, Cars, Boats!  in the past my friends have enjoyed creating their own cars and boats and trains . I provide the boxes and they bring the transportation to life!  then they use them to create interactive play. So much fun!  I have also enjoyed putting Transportation themed  counters in the sensory area and let the children create their own  Train tracks, Road ways, or water ways for boats. Transportation (Loose parts) This is a great theme that is not only perfect for young kids… but if you have older children, you can get them involved with this as well. The things you can do with transportation are endless. Really gets you to use your imagination and creativity. Is there something you might be struggling with? or feeling frustration around while you're creating and engaging at home?  leave me a message and I would love to help in any way I can. ...

Sensory Development

Image
We all know that our senses are Sight, Sound, Touch and Smell/Taste. Each one serving its own individual purpose. Sight allows us to understand the world around us, sight also allows us to understand objects around us.   Hearing is the first   link to understand and develop language. Touch is our first defense against harm from our environment.   And smell allows up to develop taste over time. Our sense of movement creates our stability and sense of position in the world. This allows us to build coordination   and eventually learn to process information.   Soon we gain the ability to walk , run and play. To learn these skills one at a time it is most helpful to break large tasks down into achievable steps. Once one is achieved and mastered them introduce the next, until the task is complete.   For Children who are learning to use and develop visual skills, make sure that all the objects they will interact with are at child height to promote e...

Spooktacular Art and Sensory

Image
Hello Again Everyone! I am so sorry it has taken me so long to post fun ideas for you all ! I have been busy working on new and exciting ways to work with you my friends. (More About That In Future Posts). Recently I did a fun activity with my friends that I think you might enjoy doing JUST in time for Halloween! We made cotton ball ghosts. First we spread out liquid glue in a wavy pattern, Then we added our cotton balls by stretching them out and pulling them in spooky shapes. Then to finish our spooky Ghosts, we added Google Eyes. Then to extend our sensory fun, we put shaving cream in our sensory table and dug for creepy crawly Items. This allowed our friends to use their eye hand coordination and small motor skills. These are just a few of the fun things that we have done so far this month. I hope you enjoy these and have lots of your own sensory fun at home! Don't forget that you can find lots more fun activities at my website thecreativecampus.weebly.com  ...

Happy 4th Of July Fun!

Image
Hello Everyone! I hope you are as excited about the 4th Of July as I am! the fireworks are always fun to see and there are lots of fun things going on this time of year. I wanted to share with you real fast, something I came up with as an extension of our theme this week. We used two different sized coffee filters, gluing them on top of one another. Then we used thinned out paint and decorated our fireworks. I would suggest letting the children color with crayons first to create background color. the children really had a lot of fun with this and I can't wait to use it again. The Children enjoyed making their own fireworks so much, that I decided to turn it into a sensory experience.  I put shaving cream into the science table, and gave each child a different color paint. I told them to smear the paint and shaving cream using hair combs. This created our own fireworks display.   I hope you enjoy this activity at home, and have a Wonderful...

Discovery Play

Image
Hi Everyone! I hope your having lots of fun and learning new things every day! I wanted to talk to you about an activity that can be used in many ways. I call this "Discovery Play" I like to set out a substance like Shaving Cream or Jello and provide a variety of toys for my friends to play with IN the substance. This provides a sensory and play experience all in one. One of my favorite things to do with this activity is to set out Cars, People and even little furniture or food. This creates a fun opportunity for play and learning, because the children can use the items in any way they see fit. They can use the food to cook, or they can use all the toys and have the people cook using the food while pretending to be in a pretend place represented by the jello or Shaving Cream. I love to watch the creative thinking that children use when you provide them an open ended play experience like this. Activities like this can also open up opportunities to create stories and develo...

Halloween Fun

Image
Hi Everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I just wanted to let you in on something we did in my class today. We had some non scary Halloween fun. We made Wild Things  Each child chose a piece of paper, and I set out paint, pom poms and Halloween themed stickies. I showed the children how to dunk the golf ball in the pain and roll it on the paper. From there I let them add what they wanted.  Once the eyes were on, they truly started to look like "Wild Things". Then when they were all done adding hair  and skin and whatever they could imagine, I cut around the edges to create the full "Wild Thing" look! Suprisingly my friends sat for a very long time creating these THINGS!  Im not sure which they enjoyed more, the Painting stage or the Gluing stage! I was very excited to see how these turned out! for older kids we usually add on arms and legs as well. As if that weren't enough fun for my little friends, we took a break from "Art" an...

Clean Painting.

Its not very often that I plan an art project, that either goes wrong or I realize I don't have the supplies in the classroom for. Unfortunately that happened today. I wanted to do a keep sake project and realized I didn't have enough jars. Long story short, I got the idea to paint with shaving cream. I gave each child a pile of shaving cream and allowed them to pick two colors they wanted to mix into the shaving cream. I'm not sure which part they enjoyed more! the mixing of the paint or the drawing on the table after it turned colors. I encourage you all to try this in your classes if you haven't already! even I had fun with this one :) Have A Great Day!    Y our Creativity Producer and Professional Mess Maker, Theresa @ The Creative Campus
